Notes From People Who Sat in the Bay

Published with permission and lightly trimmed for length. Several of these describe sessions where the outcome was buying nothing, which is exactly why we keep them here.

I came in convinced I needed a new driver. Turns out my 3-wood and 5-wood were four yards apart and my 4-iron was doing nothing at all. They bent two clubs, sold me one hybrid, and the driver I was ready to replace stayed in the bag. Cheapest fitting outcome I have ever had.

The wedge session was the eye-opener. My 54 and 58 were only nine yards apart at full swing and I had a thirty yard hole sitting under the pitching wedge. Nobody had ever put that on paper for me. Two new wedges and a bend later the bottom of my bag finally makes sense.

What sold me was the sheet coming through with the air conditions written on it. I went back in November, we pulled my old page, and the numbers lined up exactly the way Ruthann said they would. That is the first time equipment advice has ever been checkable for me.

Booked the cheapest session mostly to prove a point to my husband. Left with a page showing a nineteen yard hole between my 5-iron and 4-hybrid and no clubs bought. They did not try to upsell me once, which is why I went back three months later and spent real money.

I have been fitted three times before and every one of them ended with whichever ball flew furthest that afternoon. This was the first time somebody showed me descent angle and explained why my old driver was landing hot and running into trouble. Gained four yards of carry and lost a lot of trouble.

Three hours felt like a lot to commit to on a Saturday morning. It was not. Watching fourteen clubs get plotted as a ladder and seeing exactly where the bag doubled up was worth the session fee before we tested a single component.

My set was four years old and I assumed the lofts were fine. Two irons were more than two degrees off. Devon bent them, we re-measured, and the spacing tightened up without me buying anything. He also told me my 3-iron was never going to work for me and that I should stop trying.

I did not think a putter fitting could be data-driven in any meaningful way. Measuring roll-out at fixed stroke lengths made distance control click for me in about twenty minutes. Shortened the shaft an inch and changed the head weight. Three-putts are down noticeably.

Brought my daughter in expecting to be sold a full junior set. Instead they measured her, adjusted the lie on three clubs she already had, told us which two were too long, and said to come back in ten months. That is the reason I now bring my own clubs here.

The gap between my driver and my longest iron was almost fifty yards and I had been filling it with a 3-wood I could not hit off the deck. They put a 7-wood on the rung instead. Slightly embarrassing club to carry, completely correct decision.

Quick thirty minute recheck after a season of heavy practice. Four clubs had drifted, all of them the ones I hit most. Back to spec in half an hour for less than the cost of a round. I will be booking this every spring now.

What I appreciated was being told a second hybrid would have landed on a rung my 5-iron already covered. They talked me out of a purchase and then spent the rest of the session fixing the actual gap higher up the bag.

How We Handle These

We ask for a note about a week after a session, once the clubs have actually been played rather than just hit indoors. Nothing is offered in exchange and nothing is written for anyone.

If a session did not go well, we would rather hear it on the phone than read it online, and we will put the time back in the diary to sort it out.

  • Requested a week after the session, not on the day
  • Published with the customer's permission
  • Trimmed for length only, never for content
  • No incentives, discounts or freebies offered

Every note above started with somebody spending an hour finding out what their bag actually does.
